Face to face consultation meetings: Items which should not routinely be prescribed in primary care

In 2017, the cost of prescriptions dispensed in the community was £9.17 billion. This cost coupled with finite resources means it is important that the NHS achieves the greatest value from the money that it spends.

Set out in the NHS England consultation are proposals for an review and update of Items which should not routinely be prescribed in primary care: Guidance for CCGs, published in Nov 2017.

Face to face and online consultation events

During the consultation period a range of events, including face to face events (including in London on 5 February 2019) and webinars (online meetings on 14 Jan and 14 Feb 2019) will be undertaken to gather feedback on the proposals – you can register for these here.

Booking for targeted webinars for GPs and other prescribers, pharmacists and industry will also be available shortly.

The commissioning guidance, upon which NHS England is consulting, will be addressed to CCGs to support them to fulfill their duties around appropriate use of prescribing resources. To read more on this and a link to the consultation document please click here.

Consultation closes 28 Feb 2019.
