Evening and weekend GP services
The NHS Operational Planning and Contracting Guidance 2017 sets out plans to improve access to primary care. CCGs have been allocated funding to commission this additional access to primary care services in 2018/19. There are seven key requirements including; timing, capacity and equality which need to be met and a target of 30 minutes per 1000 population of additional appointment time. This equates to 184 hours per week across Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex.
The CCG has been working in partnership with local clinicians and our patients and public to design a service which would meet the needs of our local population and support patients in accessing the right care, at the right time and in the right place.
The new service means that from October 2018, additional evening and weekend GP appointments will be delivered from a number of locations across Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex.
The hubs will provide both routine and urgent appointments. Appointments will be bookable via the patient’s registered GP practice in the normal way, during normal opening hours. At present, for urgent appointments outside of normal working hours patients should continue to call NHS 111.
The service is being delivered by Alliance for Better Care Ltd, the local GP Federation. Appointments will be available for anyone who is registered with a GP practice in Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex.
